Our Habitat for Humanity Good News house, this year, will be the renovation of a 1960 Bi-level. Demolition and construction on the 2025 houses is presently underway. Again this year FBC is joining with 18 some other churches to make a family’s home ownership dream come true. As in the past twenty four years, our support involves providing funds to buy the construction materials, volunteering and sometimes supplying lunches at the work site.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian-based nonprofit housing organization whose
mission is to provide decent, affordable housing for and with God’s people in need.
Homeowner families are carefully selected based on income and other guidelines.
They are required to contribute hundreds of hours of “sweat equity” in their homes.
Houses are sold at cost and with nor low interest. Mortgage payments are used to help build more affordable housing throughout the world.
The 2025 house is located at 1015 Gault Drive, Ypsilanti. Our FBC Saturday work day is June 14th and our Friday workday is Aug 1st. The FBC volunteers will work with another congregation to provide labors and perhaps lunches on work days. If you have the time and wish to volunteer during the week go to the Good News house website: H4H.org/goodnewsgroup for home page and H4H.org/goodnewsvolunteer for signing waivers.
As in past years, our congregation has also committed financial support to the project. We are asking you to contribute as you have in the past to aid this effort to provide affordable housing in our community. We have committed to raising $2500 in 2025. Make your check payable to First Baptist Church and note on the memo line that it is the Good News Habitat Houses.
