You’re invited to tea with Pastor Laura!

One of my main goals during my first year as your pastor is to get to know each of you on a deeper level than is possible shaking hands after worship. So, I would like to invite you to “Tea with Pastor Laura”! I’m not a coffee person, but you’re welcome to have coffee if that’s your preference. We can meet at a local coffee shop, at the church office, or in your home, whichever you prefer. If you are a couple or a family, it’s up to you whether we meet together or one-on-one. I’m very much looking forward to getting to know each of you and hearing your stories!

Each year our congregation helps equip the students in the seven locations served by Community Action Network (CAN) for the new school year. This year 300 backpacks are needing to be filled!  Please give generously to this special ministry. Check out the Amazon wishlist or if you’d prefer to give a financial donation, please send a check made out to Sue Ellen Glover c/o First Baptist Church, 517 E Washington, 48104. All donations are needed by August 5 in order to be sorted and distributed to the seven communities.

As a Welcoming and Affirming church, we have a commitment to offering a counter-witness to the messages of condemnation, exclusion, rejection, and even hatred the LGBTQ+ community has historically received from churches and from Christians. We’ll be hosting a table at Ann Arbor Pride on Saturday, August 1 to help offer a public witness to love and welcome for all, especially for those who have not felt welcomed elsewhere. Communion is served on the first Sunday of each month at FBCA2. Each Communion Sunday, we need 6 people to partner with our pastor to distribute communion. For more information about the specific roles and responsibilities, review the Communion Preparation and Serving Instructions.

It is a treat to have flowers for worship! Would you like to help make this happen? If so, select a Sunday. Then, by the Wednesday before, email Kat (office@fbca2.org) with the dedication for the bulletin. Also by the Wednesday before, let Dana Larson (lapd4larson@gmail.com) of the Board of Worship know if you would like to have a floral arrangement ($50) ordered from a local florist or if you prefer to bring your own flowers. If bringing your own flowers, please have them at church on Sunday morning by 9:40 am. Questions? Connect with Dana.

Youth, you are an important part of our worshiping community! 6th through 12th graders are invited to acolyte once a month or every other month.

We are in need of volunteers to help cook or serve a hot meal on the third Thursday of each month at Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti. Interested? Contact Karen Rayner or simply sign up!. No experience required and ALL are welcome (friends, family, colleagues…). Why not sign up for a time with a friend? Volunteers must be 12 or older.
