The Poor People’s Campaign Digital Justice Gathering

  • This event has passed.

In 1968, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and many others called for a “revolution of values” in America. They built a broad, fusion movement that united poor and impacted communities across the country, The Poor People’s Campaign. Today, the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival shines a light on the conditions of those most impacted by systemic racism, systemic poverty, ecological devastation, militarism, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism.

As Christians, we believe everybody has the right to live a dignified life. We believe we have the power to be agents of change and the responsibility to remind our nation what truths we hold to be self-evident and what values we hold dear.

This Saturday, the Moral March on Washington (originally planned to take place in D.C.) is going digital! We invite you to engage with us this Saturday, June 20th, in the Mass Poor People’s Assembly and Moral March on Washington Digital Justice Campaign!

Schedule:

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Tune in to the national livestream broadcast at June2020.org, featuring the Rev. Dr. William Barber, Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis, people of faith, and voices of people who have experienced poverty.

Anytime after the broadcast ends: Visit our church Facebook page to watch a very special video in which Dannie Jones, one of our beloved church members, shares his perspectives and experiences with poverty.

4:30 – 5:00 PM: Join us for a drive-by event at the church (517 E Washington St), for:
INFORMATION: Get information about affordable housing and mass incarceration, and pledge to vote in our local elections on August 4th.
DONATION: Show solidarity by making a donation to be split between Avalon Housing and Ending Mass Incarceration.
INSPIRATION: Pick up your FBCA2 yard sign if you haven’t yet!
HYDRATION: Celebrate your participation with a popsicle!

Together, we can make a difference when we use our voices, our dollars, and our votes to speak out against injustice.
If you believe it’s time to rise, join us!
