Youth

A Ministry With and For and By Youth

We offer multiple programs for youth including a Sunday morning experience, as well as numerous opportunities for fellowship and service and growth at other times during the week.  The youth of First Baptist are a diverse group of middle school and high school students, who support one another and understand what it means to be part of a Christian community, in all its depth and breadth.  We study the Bible, we learn to pray, we share in the highs and lows of life, we laugh at ourselves, we share and challenge one another in a loving way.  We contribute to the life of the congregation.

One of the unique aspects of being a youth at First Baptist is the context.  Middle and High School students should be working on owning their own faith and discovering what being a person of faith means to them.  In word and deed, First Baptist “encourages and respects the individual’s search for truth . . . celebrate[s] the special gifts of all believers, testifying that God can use each of us in ministry . . . graciously extended as we welcome and serve families and individuals, friends and strangers, the confident and the confused . . . [and] give[s] life to our convictions . . . .and understands that such a living faith ‘must experience a growing understanding of truth and must be continually interpreted and related to the needs of each new generation.’”

There are few better places for youth to do this than a congregation with a commitment to justice in the community through serving the homeless population and a global mission partner, as well as a commitment to a search for one’s convictions and living faith.  In other words, we are all about being real people of faith in a real world.
