First Baptist Church of Ann Arbor (FBCA2) seeks a Youth Minister to develop and oversee all FBCA2 ministries to junior high and high school aged youth, with the goal of nurturing Christian faith.

We are a congregation of the American Baptist Churches USA, located in Ann Arbor’s thriving downtown, on the edge of the University of Michigan campus. We are dedicated to serving all persons in the community through ministries including preaching and worship, Christian education, music, and outreach, in the name of Christ and to the glory of God.

Function of the Job:

Responsible for the development and oversight of all FBCA2 ministries to junior high and high school aged youth with the goal of nurturing Christian faith. Facilitates and executes long-term visioning for FBCA2’s youth ministry. Teaches and leads from a strong biblical and theological basis.  The work includes active ministry with FBCA2 youth and outreach to youth of the community not necessarily affiliated with FBCA2.

Qualifications:

A passion and enthusiasm for youth, experience in leading youth ministry, administrative skills, and a healthy personal spiritual life. Must be a self-motivated leader who can work well with teams, including church staff, volunteers, and youth. Must be supportive of American Baptist Churches USA tradition and of a theology congruent with the pastoral ministries and vision of FBCA2. M.Div. preferred.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and lead effective youth programs, implementing ministries of fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and mission.  Nurture and promote growth in youth ministry in meaningful ways, spiritually and numerically.
  • Provide spiritual counsel and guidance to youth.
  • Communicate regularly with youth and parents of youth as well as with church staff and other church leaders.
  • Collaborate with the Youth Advisory Committee comprised of youth, parents of youth, staff and/or church leaders, which assists in planning, implementing, and assessing youth ministries.
  • Develop and manage the youth ministry budget(s), including student fees for events, youth fundraisers, etc.
  • Integrate youth ministry into larger ministry philosophy of the church in ways that promote intergenerational dialogue, understanding, and collaboration.  Encourage church membership and ministry involvement of youth.
  • Develop relationships with youth and their parents through presence at school and community activities involving youth.
  • Regularly attend worship and periodically participate in worship leadership– both in youth-only worship events and in whole church worship – to facilitate the corporate spiritual life of youth.
  • Report to Director of Christian Education.  Participate in annual performance review.
  • Attend staff meetings. Work closely with other staff and the Board of Christian Education. Present annual ministry goals and assessments of program.
  • Stay current with youth ministry research and practices.
