Once when Henry James was saying goodbye to his nephews he offered this advice: “There are three things that are important in human life. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. The third is to be kind.”
The importance of kindness is worth repeating. As a little child in church I heard it very often. When we were still very young, they taught us tiny bits of scripture to learn by heart – they would help us to say them until the words were buried deep in us like seeds. I recall three sentences that had only three words each: “God is love”; “Love one another”; “Be ye kind.” (more…)
