Stacey Simpson Duke
is Co-Pastor of First Baptist Church and Campus Minister for the
American Baptist Campus Foundation at the University of Michigan, along
with her husband,
Paul
. They began their ministry here together in January 2001.
For
the five years prior to serving at First Baptist, Stacey served as solo
pastor of Fellowship Baptist Church of Edison, Georgia (affiliated with
the Alliance of Baptists and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship).
During her tenure there, the church was named as one of 300 excellent
Protestant congregations in the nation by a study funded by the Lilly
Foundation. The church is included in the book Excellent Protestant Congregations: A Guide to Best Places and Practices by Paul Wilkes.
Graduating
with her M.Div. from Candler School of Theology, Emory University,
Atlanta, Georgia, in May 1996, Stacey was ordained by Oakhurst Baptist
Church, Decatur, Georgia, an American Baptist Church (also affiliated
with the Alliance of Baptists and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship).
She has served in a number of ministry capacities, including as
hospital chaplain, children's minister, youth minister, summer
missionary, camp pastor, and retreat leader. Her publications include
two chapters in The Abingdon Women's Preaching Annual, Year A, 2004-2005, and four articles in the October 2000 issues of The Christian Century. Stacey was profiled in the March-April 2002 issue of Sojourner's Magazine, in the article entitled "The Anti-Slackers."
Paul and Stacey married in February 2001. They live in Ann Arbor with their toddler twin sons Rob and Charlie.
In addition to spending time with her family, Stacey enjoys cooking,
baking, hiking, reading, and especially knitting.
