“Holding Lightly”

It is my job today to pass along some very strange advice. It’s not my advice – I’d have never come up with it. The Apostle Paul wrote this instruction to a church in the ancient Greek city of Corinth. The people of that church probably first heard these words read to them in a Sunday morning worship service, and when they heard it I imagine some jaws went slack and some foreheads furrowed, and some of them thought: “What on earth!” Maybe it strikes us the same way.
